We filmed this southern right whale calf and her mother from our balcony at De Kelders near Hermanus, during our visit there earlier in October. The calf has a large white mark on her stomach, which is on frequent display as she rolls in the water and smacks her pectoral fins. She reminded me of nothing so much as a Jersey cow, and I found her obvious enjoyment of life to be absolutely delightful.
