The wreck of the SS Clan Stuart is in an area marked on the charts as “Mackerel Bay”. It doesn’t look like a bay to me; even on a map, the arc of the coastline in that area is almost imperceptible. I wonder whether it was more pronounced 100 years ago. Here’s the beach at Mackerel Bay after a storm, with a big swell. That wave can make getting in and out at theĀ Clan Stuart dive site very tricky.
